Abstract: Formal logic is often overshadowed by informal fallacies and cognitive biases that play an essential role in the day-to-day wilderness of reasoning. This paper examines these elements, analysing prominent biases and fallacies such as anchoring, confirmation, availability and heuristic bias. Such underlying but powerful influences profoundly impact shaping beliefs and decision-making. Above and beyond just cognition, emotions are investigated to uncover how they influence reasoning and how that deviates from conventional logic. An understanding of everyday reasoning is provided through instances that shed light on cognitive mechanisms. Our research delves into the logic pervading our daily existence, offering practical insights for enhancing our reasoning capacities. By recognizing cognitive pitfalls and cultivating heightened critical thinking skills, we propose actionable strategies for improved decision-making. Our paper culminates in tangible implications, bridging formal logic with real-world contexts.
