Abstract
Antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) is a critical component of modern healthcare, underscoring the urgency for precise and swift detection of resistance patterns, guiding the judicious use of antimicrobial treatments through antimicrobial stewardship. Traditional clinical microbiology techniques, though accurate, suffer from time-consuming protocols and high costs, often compelling physicians to resort to empirical antimicrobial therapies. Recent advancements in AST systems exhibit superior testing speeds and the potential for a more profound understanding of resistance mechanisms, yet their clinical integration necessitates extensive validation. Given the escalating AMR crisis, it is imperative to invest in the development of innovative, rapid, accurate, and portable diagnostic strategy for AST.
