Abstract: Girls' education is crucial for a country's prosperity and development. Historically, female education was domestic and vocational, preparing girls for home chores. The Hindu system evolved the Tol or Pathasala school of higher learning. The British administration in Odisha expanded women's education during the 1803-1947 period, influencing contemporary Odisha. Despite 77 years of independence, India has made significant educational progress, but girls' education lags behind boys at all levels. Girls' enrolment is low, and their dropout rate is higher than boys. 60% of children from rural areas between the ages of 6-14 do not enrol in school, with a dropout rate as high as 60% at the elementary level. Early school dropout is a significant issue, contributing to illiteracy and waste of resources. The dropout rate is particularly high in the underprivileged population, with children from socially disadvantaged groups showing little interest in studies. The present paper attempts to analyse various aspects of the social, economic, self-interest and health problems of STs and SCs dropout girls in Loisingha Block.
Keywords: Prosperity, development, dropout rate
