Abstract
ABSTRACT This analysis examines the career growth and job satisfaction of Hall Assistants at the University of Cape Coast based on a questionnaire survey. The demographic information reveals that the majority of participants are male, with a significant number having seven years and above of experience as Hall Assistants. The findings regarding the perception of career growth opportunities indicate that many respondents find the pathways somewhat unclear and express dissatisfaction with the available opportunities. The Chief Hall Assistant position is perceived as the highest attainable position, and there is a belief that there are insufficient promotion opportunities beyond the Senior Staff rank. The support provided by the university in terms of career development and professional growth is rated as average, with some respondents expressing poor or very poor ratings. The analysis of job satisfaction shows a mixed response, with a considerable number expressing dissatisfaction, particularly due to limited career progression opportunities. The respondents emphasize the importance of job satisfaction, staff performance, and restructuring the career path of Hall Assistants to enhance their career growth and job satisfaction. Based on these findings, recommendations are proposed to improve job satisfaction, including clarifying career progression pathways, expanding promotion opportunities, providing career counseling, enhancing support for career development, and actively seeking feedback from Hall Assistants. Implementing these recommendations can create a conducive environment for career growth, improve clarity and support for Hall Assistants, and ultimately enhance their job satisfaction, leading to increased productivity and employee retention at the University of Cape Coast.
