Aim of the study
To determine the effect of individualized self-monitoring and motivational program and its impact on quality of life among persons with schizophrenia.
Objective of the study
• To find out the persons with schizophrenia by using PANSS scale.
• To find out the effect of conventional occupational therapy to improve cognitive skills and quality of life among persons with schizophrenia in control group.
• To find out the effect of individualized self-monitoring and motivational program to improve cognitive skills and quality of life among persons with schizophrenia experimental group.
• To compare the effect of conventional occupational therapy and individualized self-monitoring and motivational program between control group and the experimental group.
• To correlate between the MOCA and the WHOQOL.
Method of the study:
30 schizophrenia patients were selected based on convenient sampling method. The experimental group (n=15) received the individualized self-monitoring and motivational program for 36 sessions for 1 hour 15 mins each, while the control group received conventional occupational therapy for the same time. Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) and standardized WHOQOL are used as outcome measures.
Result:
The study result showed that individualized self-monitoring and motivational program influenced cognitive skills training among schizophrenic patients (p<0.005) also result showed improvement in quality of life of schizophrenia patients.
Conclusion:
The study concluded that ISMM program was effective in improving cognitive skills and improve the quality of life among schizophrenia patients. Hence ISMM program can be used in other conditions to improve cognitive skills.
