Abstract

Electric vehicles (EVs) have surged in popularity owing to their environmentally friendly attributes. This paper delves into the categories of EVs, charger varieties, and their power capacities. It covers Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCHEVs), and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). Additionally, it elucidates on AC-DC converters and diverse DC-DC converter configurations crucial for EV chargers, detailing their advantages and drawbacks. A non-isolated conventional DC-DC boost converter and a two-phase interleaved boost converter (IBC) are designed and assessed within the MATLAB®/Simulink environment. The findings demonstrate that the IBC exhibits minimal ripples in input current and output voltage, rendering it a more favorable choice compared to conventional DC-DC converters.
