Fabrication And Experimental Investigation Of Eutectic Mixture/Melamine Formaldehyde Microcapsules In Exterior Coating For Thermal Energy Storage Application
This study aims to prepare thermal energy storage water based exterior decorative coating using melamine formaldehyde (MF) as a shell material and Lauric acid (LA)- Capric acid (CA) phase eutectic mixture as a core material. The microcapsules are formed using in-situ polymerization method. Formed microcapsules are incorporated into paint in varying concentration. Microcapsules were characterised using Polarised optical microscopy (POM), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Paint was tested for the properties such as viscosity, gloss, water resistance, alkali resistance, wet scrub resistance etc. Water resistance and alkali resistance was found to be decreased with increase in concentration of microcapsule powder in paint. Based on the results, formed microcapsules can be considered to have a good energy storage capacity.
