Caste has been a defining feature of Indian society, and Gujarat is no exception. The caste system in Gujarat has a rich historical legacy, and it continues to shape the social and economic fabric of the state. Despite reducing caste-based discrimination and promoting social equality, inequalities persist in Gujarat. This report aims to compare occupational and cultural identity in Gujarat through the Lens of caste. The report will examine the historical roots of the caste system in Gujarat, its impact on the social and economic structure of the state, the intersectionality of caste with other social identities, the impact of globalisation on the caste system in Gujarat, and the government and civil society efforts to reduce caste-based discrimination.
