Abstract
Abstract: The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), announced on 29th July 2020, proposes various reforms in school education as well as higher education including technical education. The principles of National Education Policy 2020 as mentioned by the government are flexibility, no hard separations between courses, subjects, curricular and extra-curricular activities, multi-disciplinary education, conceptual understanding, critical thinking, ethical values, teachers as the heart of the learning process and a strong public education system. The policy is the brainchild of a team of esteemed academicians of the nation, headed by Prof K Kasturirangan, who contributed enormously to prepare the 1st Education policy of India in the 21st century which showcased the great essence of Indian Knowledge System with the emphasis of application of Technology and Research. India is the home to many great Educational Philosophers whose theories of Education and Educational principles have shaped the way the Education system is working in India over the last century. One of the great personality in terms of his Educational Philosophy, Rabindranath Tagore, fondly remembered as Gurudev, was a gem of person who was a poet, a dramatist, an excellent orator, a painter, a musician, a lyricist and overall a great philosopher. His Educational Philosophy was a combination of Naturalism, Idealism and Humanism combined with Spirituality. The present education system of the nation are shaped by the thoughts of the Great Indian sons of the soil, like Rabindranath Tagore, whose contributions for framing the education principles are enormous. The contributions are eventually observed in the framework of the educational policies that are implemented in the country post-independence. In this study, the salient features of NEP 2020 are mentioned in detail with special reference to the vision and Educational Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore.
