Amblyopia, commonly known as "lazy eye," is a neurodevelopment visual disorder that affects visual acuity and binocular vision. Traditional treatment approaches such as patching or optical correction have limitations in achieving optimal outcomes. Vision therapy, a non-invasive and customised treatment approach, has gained attention as a potential intervention for amblyopia. This review article aims to provide an overview of vision therapy in amblyopia, including its definition, principles, different approaches and techniques used, individualised treatment plans, and the available evidence on its effectiveness. The review highlights the outcomes of clinical studies evaluating the impact of vision therapy on visual acuity, binocular vision, and stereopsis. Furthermore, it discusses the challenges and considerations encountered in conducting research on vision therapy in amblyopia. The review concludes by emphasising the need for further research to establish the efficacy, optimal treatment protocols, and long-term benefits of vision therapy in amblyopia. Understanding the potential of vision therapy can aid clinicians in designing individualised treatment plans and optimising visual outcomes for individuals with amblyopia.
