Abstract
Objective - Ethanolic extract of Vitex negundo and Cordia dichotoma was evaluated for antioxidant study. As many disease are due to free radicals, finding antioxidants of herbal origin can lead to development of safe herbal medicines for these diseases. Material and Method - The in vitro antioxidant action has been determined via DPPH free radical scavenging assay, Ferric reducing antioxidant potential assay (FRAP), Hydroxyl radical scavenging assay & Nitric oxide scavenging assay (NO). Results– The results obtained from the study proved the free radical scavenging of the extract. Free radical scavenging % inhibition of Cordio dichotoma found higher than Vitex negundo. Percentage Inhibition of DPPH, Hydroxyl radical scavenging assay, NO radical scavenging assay & FRAP increased on increasing concentration. Conclusion - The result shows that ethanolic extract of Vitex negundo and Cordia dichotoma possesses substantial free radical scavenging action.
