A study to assess the effectiveness of life skills training programme to enhance the level of self-esteem among Nursing Students in selected College of Nursing, New Delhi.
Adequate understanding of one’s own worth and the ability to manage stress is of highest priority while working in the health care sector and hence it is important to know the level of self-esteem of the nursing. A pre-experimental study was conducted with an aim to assess the effectiveness of life skills training programme to enhance the level of self-esteem among Nursing Students in selected College of Nursing, New Delhi. The objectives of the study were: to assess the level of self-esteem among Nursing Students, to develop Life Skills Training Programme for enhancement of level of Self-esteem among Nursing Students, to assess the effectiveness of Life Skills Training Programme in terms of enhancement in the level of Self- esteem among the Nursing Students and to determine the relationship between pre-test score of self-esteem level of nursing students with their selected demographic variables. Quantitative approach with one group pre-test post-test design was adopted for the study. A module was developed and administered with certain activities and exercise to practice for students, based on 3 components of life skills training programme that are: Self-awareness, Effective communication and Interpersonal relationship. The data was collected from 59 B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing students of Holy Family College of Nursing using Rosenberg’s self-esteem scale. The data was tabulated and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings shows that the mean post-test score 20.8813 was higher than the mean pre-test score 16.6271 of self- esteem level among nursing students. The result also revealed that the life skills training programme was effective in enhancing the level of self-esteem among nursing students as the calculated ‘t’ value 15.2079 is greater than the table value 2.0017 at p<0.05 level of significance. There was no significance found between the level of self-esteem with selected demographic variable. Through the present study, the conclusion drawn was that there is a need of hour that life skills training must be given to nursing students.
