Mexican immigrants have contributed to the U.S. labor market, creating competition for jobs and lowering wages, but also contributing to the economy by starting businesses. Mexican immigration has increased the diversity of the U.S. population, while also leading to social tensions and discrimination. Mexican culture has influenced American culture, particularly in areas such as cuisine and language. Immigration policy has become a controversial political issue, affecting U.S.-Mexico relations.
