There are alkaloids with complex structures that are sterically hindered and sometimes bearing contiguous stereogenic centers such as oxindoles. The oxindole is a heterocyclic aromatic organic compound constituted by the fusion of both benzene and pyrrolone rings. Oxindole functionalization can lead to the formation of a wide variety of derivatives. However, the presence of a methylene group at the third position (C-3) of the five-membered oxindole ring lead to a chiral tridimensional structure with a quaternary asymmetric center such as spirocyclopropyl oxindole, pyrrolidinyl spirooxindole, spirocyclohexyl oxindole and 3,3´-disubstituted oxindole derivatives
