Abstract

Effect of various slow, deep breathing techniques on Cardiac and Respiratory parameters. Dr.Aman Kumar | Dr Lakshmi S Menon. Introduction: Deep breathing exercises are commonly used for several health conditions including Relaxation, improving muscle function during exercises, preventing strain, increasing Arterial oxygen saturation, reducing blood pressure, Managing heart rate and Hypertension. Different SDB techniques may have different effects on the cardiovascular and autonomic systems, and therefore, may produce different outcomes in hypertension management. Objective: To Estimate effects and compare 3 deep breathing techniques and examinee outcomes in Respiratory rate, Arterial oxygen saturation, Blood pressure changes and Pulse rate changes. Materials and Methodology: Participants were divided into 3 groups and were asked to perform different types of SDB at a frequency of 0.1 Hz (6 breaths per minute) for 3 mins .Cardiac and respiratory parameters were recorded before and after to study the effects. Results: Out of 50 participants required for each type of breathing group , for PLB only 40 students matched the inclusion criteria , for LUNB and RUNB 28 and 35 respectively. All 3 Types of SDB showed a statistically significant changes in HR , SBP , DBP, RR , Sao2; However PLB did not have significant effect on DBP. Conclusion: From our study we conclude, all 3 SDB exercise have significant effects on Cardiac , Respiratory parameters and the scope of SDB on the same as therapy should be explored.
