Abstract: The present study indicates how guilt and shame predict marital satisfaction among female surgeons. The objective of the research was to study if guilt and shame are predictors of marital satisfaction in female surgeons. The research design used for the present study was non-experimental correlational research design. In this study, the information was collected through questionnaires distributed to female surgeons by the researcher. The sample size of the chosen population for the present study was a total sample of 30 working female surgeons in between the age ranges 30 to 40 years with an average of working at least 9 hours a day, who have been married for at least with at least 1 child and at most 2 children living in a nuclear family (without parents or in-laws). The scales used were Guilt and Shame proneness scale by Taya R. Cohen and Marital Quality Scale by Shah. Findings suggest that there is a significant difference in guilt with respect to marital satisfaction and shows that there is no significant difference in shame with respect to marital satisfaction. As a result, the study has proved that guilt predicts marital satisfaction and shame does not predict marital satisfaction.
