Abstract
Ground water is a major water source for domestic and agricultural purposes. It is a poverty reduction tool in India’s rural areas but when it rise up it creates many environmental problems. Ground water gives there contribution in growth of India’s economy. It is most important for sustainable socio-economic development but sometimes it is harmful for sustainability. In Haryana state more than 75 per cent parts of irrigation are depends upon surface water. But the poor drainage system and extensive use of canal water in irrigation to rises up the ground water level. Floods occurs many times in this area due to poor drainage system. In the present study an attempt has been made to address the issue of increasing and declining ground water level in Central east part of Haryana state (Rohtak District). For this measurement used GIS software for map preparation and raster calculation. Change detection maps also prepared in GIS software. The study suggests the immediate attention of policy makers in this direction.
