Abstract: Objectives: Current study illustrates the effect of seed priming with ZnO nano-particles of different particle sizes and concentration on overall growth, germination, yield, yield attributing characters and Seed quality characteristics of maize crop. Methodology: zinc oxide nanoparticles are suspended in de-ionised water and ultrasonicated for 30 minutes. Seeds of maize cultivar was soaked in zinc oxide nanoparticles suspension of sizes 20-30nm,40-50nm,60-80nm,80-100nm at the concentrations of 5,10 and 15 mg/L for 3 hours and used for germination test and field experimentation. Results: Results indicated that ZnO nanoparticles of size 20-30nm, at concentration of 15mg/L treatment (T3) effected positively on the germination, root length, shoot length, seedling fresh weight, seedling dry weight, Vigour index I and II, seedling growth rate, seed metabolic efficiency, plant height, leaves number, days to maturity, chlorophyll content, yield, Harvest index, cob length ,cob girth, number of kernels per row, number of kernels per cob, seed yield per plant, seed index, protein, zinc and carbohydrate content and dehydrogenase activity increased as compared to control. Conclusion: So Seed priming with ZnO nanoparticles size of 20-30nm at 15mg/L concentration tracked down best for growth ,germination, yield and nutritional parameters in maize compared to control.
Keywords: Maize, ZnO nanoparticles, Germination, Growth, Biochemical parameters.
