Third-party cookies benefit advertisers and marketers in various ways to help them achieve successful sales and business. Third-party cookies also help users by providing them with a better experience on the web browser. However, despite the benefits of using third-party cookies, Google has made a decision to eradicate third-party cookies. This paper carries out a thorough and in-depth analysis of Google’s decision of eradicating third-party cookies and identifies whether or not it is a good decision. The first half of this paper will give a brief introduction to Cookies in general and their importance, the types of cookies that are being used on web browsers, an in-depth explanation of the main purpose of cookies, and the benefits and risks of Cookies. The latter half of this paper identifies the reasons for Google’s decision of eradicating third-party cookies whilst evaluating the alternatives that have been proposed by the company and detailing the impact of the same on the varying stakeholders.
