The combination of textiles, history, mythology and ancient books can drive us into a deep ocean of knowledge. ‘Sari’- A piece of cloth which was invented between 2800-1800 BC, An Indian woman's national costume. Every Indian is very sentimental and feels proud of their culture and Heritage. Different motifs, patterns, and wearing styles are seen in saris in every state of India. The influences of India’s culture and nature can be seen in every type of Sari. Baluchari belongs to West Bengal and the sari is all about Bengali culture, tradition and nature. The colour, motif, weaving technique, and fabric are the best part of the sari and fascinate every craft lover and artist. The art was almost dead but was revived in the last century by some amazing craftsman, who took initiative to revive Bengal’s treasure. The paper’s main focus is to study this wonderful art by reading books, articles, and research papers and interacting with artists who weave this beautiful art. The study of motifs was also collected from both primary and secondary sources. The present status of the variety, motif and material of Baluchari is analysed through interviews via phone calls and face-to-face interaction with Weavers. A survey was done in a small village called Purbasthali situated in Purba Bardhaman District in West Bengal. As a result, the survey provided more knowledge about Baluchari’s present status, weavers’ financial problem, changes in material, domination of Mahajan and CAD designers, cost of the saree and the probability of intervening and creating something new in the Motif design area.
