Abstract
Village is the soul of India, without which it can’t survive. While the urban population has dramatically increased over the last couple of decades, the rural life is central to India’s existence and identity. Gandhi ji said “India lives in villages; if villages perish, India will perish too. It is true that the real India consists of villages; 78 percent (2011census of India) of the country’s population are village dwellers. So it’s important to know that for social scientists in India, the village has been more than just an important fact about the world. Since the colonial times, the nature of the Indian village has been the subject of numerous investigations carried out by both scholars and administrator’s .As an institution, the village has been steeped deep in antiquarian. In the Indian context, the references to the village are as antiquarian as the Dharmashastras. The present study is based on the structural change in Indian villages. Government records and previous studies have been used for the present study. All the data collected from secondary data.
