Ethno-Veterinary Medicinal Plants Used To Remove Intestinal And Parasitic Worms In Ruminant Animals From Bhor Taluka, Pune District, Maharashtra State, India.
The livestock owners and tribal farmers of Bhor region depend on herbal medicines for animal health care system Local herbalist use EVM and EM plants in their daily life and for treatment of human and animal diseases, These herbal medicines are easily available in surrounding forest area.In rural and remote hilly area,the women play key role in traditionalremedies and have more knowledge than men about household medicines for routine diseases of livestock and human. The local communities peoplefrom Bhor region like Dhangar ,Mahadeo-koli, Kunabi, Nahvi, Bhoi, Sonar, Sutar, Maratha have sound traditional knowledge of their livestock diseasesand traditional animal treatment. Local practitioner, vaidu, Hakim, herbalists and tribal farmers have adequate traditional knowledge regarding, bone fracture, snake bite, dysentery, diarrhea,wound healing, maggoty woundetc. In some parts of India animal rearing communities have more knowledge about ethno-veterinary remedies than other groups.Animals are suffering from two types of parasites, a) endoparasites and b) ectoparasites. Its transmission may be take place through contaminated pasture and drinking water. To control severity of disease, livestock deworming can be control through documentation ofdeworming plants (EVM plants) carried out in Bhor region and other regions. Local people use Daucus carota L. (Root), Azadirachta indica A. Juss (Leaves), Punica granatum L.(Bark), Carica papaya L. (Seeds) and Areca catechu L. ( Fruit powder) Mucusna pruiens ( L )DC. ( Fruit hairs with jaggery), Sapidus erocephalus species (filtrate of fruits) Some of them are very effective in animal health care by appropriate doses are presented in this paper. This paper enumerated 40 plant resources which belong to 29 families 35 genera and 35 species from Bhor region.
