Students’ Attitude towards Languages and their Academic Achievement Dr. Anup Baluni Associate Professor Himalayiya University Fathepur Tanda Jeevanwala Dehradun Uttarakhand anupbaluni@rediffmail.com Abstract In the present study, the investigator explored the attitude and academic achievement of the students towards languages (Sanskrit, Hindi and English). Language refers to the cognitive faculty that enables humans to learn and use systems of complex communication. Their attitude and thinking towards language learning create hurdles which obstruct them from knowing about a new language. It is important for all the language teachers to understand and guide the students to achieve something in their language competence. The main aim of education is to modify the behavior of a child according to the needs and expectancy of the society. Behaviour is composed of many attributes. One of these important attribute is attitude. The entire personality and development of a child is influenced by the nature of his attitudes. The findings of the study revealed that attitude of the private students is quite low towards learning Sanskrit language whereas government students are more comfortable in learning Sanskrit and they find difficulty in Hindi and English languages.
