Abstract

Abstract: Ethno biology means study of nature and direct relationship of plants, animals and human society or the knowledge of natural environment and direct relationship between living organisms and different races of man.The local or tribal people use large number of wild resources for their day to day needs includes medicines, festivals, food, fodder, worship etc. In recent years the growth of science education is suppressed due to negative approach (attitude) towards science subjects. This is due to inadequacies in subject matter, teaching methods and infrastructure. This situation can be changed basically from school level syllabus which is formulated by school board authorities. Popularization of science education through different methods like demonstration, actual field visits, personal communication with students and their guardians. It will help to improve personal relationship with surrounding environment. Bhor is hilly and remote taluka of Pune district district. It has 185 villages and total population is 1, 54,903. The forest is classified into reserved forest, protected forest acquired private forest. An average rain fall is 1200 mm from June to September. The forest is rich in plant diversityThis forests incorporates economic species in the form of timber or minor forest products. In this category Teak (Tectona grandis L.) is the principal species and others are Semecarpus anacardium L, Butea monosperma Taub., Anogeissus latifolia Bedd., etc. There are many wild edible, medicinal, fodder, worship plants used by local people. Most of the rural students are well acquainted with these wild resources in child hood. Due to school and college education these students do not remain in their communities long enough to acquire the knowledge available to them through the traditional channels. To change this situation biological teachers in high schools, Junior colleges, Senior colleges, university level should be trained by arranging orientation and refresher courses. This change should be made in syllabus formulation. The local or rural students should be motivate to learn indigenous knowledge and create awareness among local resources. It will help in the attitudes that shape new concept of indigenous knowledge
