Abstract
The Study of Socioeconomic status and its related problems is very much important in the present-day situation. Because, in the crucial time of pandemic COVID-19 and Lockdown, the Marketing facility, Healthcare facilities, Quality of Education, Transport services, etc. are decreasing day by day. Socio-economic status is essential to know about the economic and social development in a region. Recently, the COVID-19 has been creating so many problems in terms both socially and economically in Tribal areas of the Bodoland Territorial Region. Although the Tribal People are culturally rich, socially, and economically they are somewhat backward in comparison to other communities. The present study is on the Socio-economic status and rising socio-economic problems of the villagers of Mahaliapara Village in Udalguri District of Bodoland Territorial region, Assam. Mahaliapara village is a Tribal Village, where 100% of villagers are from the Bodo-Kachari tribe. The village is located in the Bhergaon Development Block under Bhergaon Subdivision. Udalguri District is an important district in Bodoland Territorial Region. But the District is situated so far from the Headquarter of Bodoland Territorial Council, Kokrajhar. That's why development is somewhat less in this district due to its isolated location. The present study tries to highlight the most prominent determinants of the Socioeconomic status of a region like Age-Sex Composition, Proper Sanitation Facility, Pattern of Education, Housing condition, Economic structure and Income, Marital status, etc. This study also tries to disclose the problems faced by the Tribal villagers like Low Income, Unemployment, Scarcity of Safe and pure drinking water, etc. This study is based on primary and secondary data and aims to find out some suggestions to overcome the Socioeconomic issues of the native people of the study area and to get some help and proper facilities from the government.
