Abstract
The media has been susept to misrepresenting the Muslim community for many years. However, the 9/11 incident fueled this false framing of the muslim community in the western media even further. In particular, many newspapers and tv shows began making direct linkages between the muslim community and terrorists. The reason this is so harmful is because it creates and confirms many stereotypes in the minds of the public and causes them to alter their behavior when interacting with anyone from said community. This paper attempts to explain the aforementioned through the application of the Framing and the Orientalism theory.
