The nucleation and growth of the d phase is central to an understanding of the corrosion behaviour of these alloys. The Chemical composition of aluminium-lithium alloy (2091-T8), used in the present study was as follows: 1.8-2.5% Cu, 1.7-2.3% Li, 1.1-1.9% Mg, 0.3% Fe, 0.2% Si, 0.1% Cr, 0.1% Mn, 0.25% Zn, 0.1% Ti, 0.04-0.16% Zr and the remainder is Al. The density of the alloy was reported as 2.58 g/cm³.
