Psychoanalysis is the theory about structure of human mind and it's functioning. This theory gained enormous recognition in 1920s. Psychoanalytic literary criticism has its roots in Romanticism. The Romantic view in literature claims that the author’s persona is exhibited in the work of art. Psychoanalytic criticism helps in investigating author’s intensions, hopes, fears, motives, prejudices etc. It also reveals the functioning of mind and it’s relation with the conscious and the unconscious.
