Abstract
Konkani is a North-Western Indo Aryan language; the native speakers of the language are spread on the Western Coast of India. The language is rich culturally and can boast of rich literature. The State patronage to the language is not as in tune with the requirements of the language and therefore many are not forthcoming to call themselves as belonging to Konkani language. Riches of the Konkani need to be understood in its proper dimension and support should be granted to enable Konkani to come out using its full potentials. This study attempts identify the linguistic existence of Konkani within the multiple language families of India and place it in right abreast. It attempts to bring out the richness of the language and place it.
