Abstract— Peer-to-peer ride sharing, a prominent innovation in
urban transportation, capitalizes on the sharing economy and
digital platforms to connect riders with drivers, alleviating the
strains of urban mobility. This paper examines the underlying
principles, environmental benefits, and societal implications of
this disruptive model, while addressing the accompanying
challenges, including safety and regulatory concerns. As P2P
ride sharing continues to reshape the landscape of urban
transportation, it signifies a promising shift towards sustainable
mobility solutions, with a pivotal need for ongoing research and
collaborative efforts among stakeholders to fully harness its
potential and create a more efficient, environmentally
responsible, and socially inclusive future of transportation.
The P2P Ride Sharing application is a decentralized platform
built on the Ethereum blockchain, connecting riders with
drivers seamlessly. It employs smart contracts written in
Solidity to manage interactions between users, including trip
requests, pairing, payment, and trip completion. The frontend
is developed using HTML/JS with React, offering a userfriendly interface with features like Google Maps integration
for location selection. Interaction with the blockchain is
minimized for reduced latency, with most computations
handled client-side. Key functionalities such as account
setup, ride booking, location sharing, and payment
processing are in place, demonstrating the project's
feasibility. Remaining tasks focus on completing trip
functionality and achieving full frontend-backend
integration.
